September 2019, Week 2
The farm is a beautiful place, full of the straight lines our hands have made and the soft ones that nature fills in. On September 21, explore that beauty in a new way at a watercolor landscape class with guest artist Kara Aina. We'll work from the landscape right in front of us to create unique paintings. We'll explore techniques to capture the textures and colors of the land, and represent not only what we see, but what we feel.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You don't need experience or materials for this class - just curiosity, and the willingness to open your eyes to a new way of seeing. Visit our website to reserve your spot!
THIS WEEK IN YOUR SIMPLE SHARE...Pineapple Tomatillos - one cup
Small, round tomato-like fruits ripen from green to yellow with a pleasant texture and an explosive, juicy pineapple flavor. They are excellent for fresh salads, salsas, desserts, jams, canning, or just to eat as a unique snack!Black Magic Kale - one bunch
Their flesh is similar to a cantaloupe, they have a light peach inner coloring, and are sweet with a hint of spice. You'll know they are ripe when they have a golden-yellow exterior and have a waxy feel.Corn - 6 ears
Fun corn fact: did you know corn is a fruit? Each kernel is one fruit, and the long "silks" are actually pistils. When they're pollinated, they prompt the kernels to grow into the fruit we harvest. I'm always amazed by the complexity of the work the plant does to bring us food. It's yet another reason to appreciate the natural world! ⠀Chinese Long Beans - one lb
Ghee is ideal for roasting or even frying at high temperatures without burning (like regular butter or olive oil). Ghee is wonderful to use for sautéing vegetables, adding to roasted vegetables, and also to top toast.
See you next week!
