September 2020, Week 1
For weeks, the buds swell, expanding slowly as the roots drink water and the leaves take in sunlight. We can’t hasten them. All we can do is wait, and watch, and wait some more.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then, one day, we walk out to the field and one has opened. A dozen have opened. They haven’t developed to call out to us - it’s insects they’re interested in - but they call out anyway. And we answer that call, drawn to the color and shape and discovery of each detail.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It won’t be here forever. But for just this moment, we can pause, to be here, at this time, with the dahlias in the field.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you haven’t yet experienced it for yourself, visit our market during our open hours to come and harvest your own bouquets. Fresh from the fields and all by your design.
